A Beautifully Restored Stone House In A Peaceful Mountain Village : Nofalias : Neopolis : Crete
The house is stone built with traditional wooden windows and shutters. It was originally owned by the village cobbler, and dates back to the early 1900’s. It is single storey, but on two levels separated by five stone steps. It has a living area with open plan kitchen at the lower level, and a double bedroom on the higher level.
The kitchen has a built in hob and oven, and a fridge freezer and washing machine are also included in the sale. All the appliances are brand new. There is an old stone fireplace which has been preserved, but no longer works as there is no chimney. Instead there is a cast iron wood burning stove. There is a large double bedroom with a full height built in wardrobe. This room has French doors that open on to a spacious patio with two mature cypress trees giving shade from the hot summer sun. Nofalias is quite a sleepy little place, in a lovely setting, with sea views in two different directions. It has some lovely old ruins, some scruffy modern houses, and a handful of nicely restored stone houses. The old ladies of the village still get together to bake bread and rusks in traditional stone ovens, and sheep are still slaughtered for Easter in the traditional way. There are two coffee shops, which can only be described as somewhat ethnic, although you will always be made welcome. The village also has a working raki still, so it is well worth visiting in November when the raki is produced. Nofalias is a place where you can just totally relax. No one will try to make you join in or bother you, or you can get to know people if you wish. They are all genuinely friendly. It is very peaceful and a great place for a writer, an artist, or a trainee hermit
